I came across this short video on YouTube that explains some fundamental filmmaking compositions and how they are used to tell a story. Even though you may not be photographing dinosaurs (if you are, please share with the rest of us), many of the points are still applicable to photography.
Probably more important than anything else is that every little detail is intentional. Nothing was an accident. There can be so much going on in a scene that you may not notice, but it all works together to tell the story in your mind subconsciously.
